Matt Cassel has seen a lot in 10 years in the NFL, including by his count seven different offensive coordinators in his last six seasons in the league. So when Cassel re-signed with the Minnesota Vikings in the offseason and started to digest Norv Turner's new system, he knew he'd have to work harder and study longer than he ever had before to win the starting job. Mission accomplished. Cassel was named the starting quarterback over first-round draft pick Teddy Bridgewater on Monday for the regular season opener against the St. Louis Rams, an achievement that resonated with a player who has evolved from no-name rookie to backup sensation to embattled starter and then to a journeyman veteran scratching and clawing to get another shot.
The New York Times has criticized businessman and Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump after he apparently mocked a reporter at the paper who has a disability. Spokesperson Jordan Cohen told BuzzFeed News on Thursday, "We think it’s outrageous that he would ridicule the appearance of one of our reporters." At a recent rally, Trump cited an article written by the then-Washington Post reporter Serge Kovaleski about Trump's claims that muslims were celebrating during 9/11 in Jersey City. While discussing the article, Trump then apparently mocked Kovaleski, who has arthrogryposis, which restricts muscle movement. Kovaleski now works for the New York Times.
2016 probably can't come soon enough for Khloe Kardashian. The 31-year-old Keeping Up With the Kardashians star said on Twitter on Wednesday, while chatting with fans, that 2015 has so far been, "hands down," the "worst year of my life lol." The last month or so has been particularly stressful. On Oct. 13, Lamar Odom was hospitalized for a drug overdose after being found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel. Khloe flocked to his bedside at a hospital and helped take care of him. She later accompanied him as he was transported to a medical center in Los Angeles and has since continued to support him. Amid Odom's medical scare, they also canceled their divorce petition as he continues to heal.
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade kicked off this morning, with balloons, floats, celebrities and musical acts cruising down New York City's Central Park West, through the Avenue of the Americas and ending in Herald Square, in front of Macy's iconic Herald Square store. The parade, now in its 89th year, featured perennial favorites like Snoopy, Spongebob Squarepants and of course Santa Claus bringing up the rear, mixed with new arrivals like Red from Angry Birds, and a new Ronald McDonald balloon.
For his first post-Mad Men project, Matthew Weiner is directing a season-four episode of longtime friend Jenji Kohan's Orange Is the New Black. Marking the first time Weiner has helmed a project he didn't write, the Emmy-winning showrunner joins Jodie Foster, Nicole Holofcener and Allison Anders as directors on the Netflix series. The episode is currently filming and an on-set source tells The Hollywood Reporter that Weiner is “loving it.” When pressed for additional details about Weiner’s episode or plotlines for the new season, actress Laura Prepon said, "I will get in a lot of trouble. But I can say the fans are going to love it.”
Great news, Adele fans: She's going on tour! Unfortunately for fans in the United States, if you want to see her perform live, you'll have to fly to Europe. For now, at least. The concert series, Adele's first in more than four years, is set to begin in Northern Ireland on Feb. 29, 2016.
