Expect to hear a lot more talk about the planned House Republican lawsuit against President Obama -- from Obama. The president has mocked House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, since he and other Republicans disclosed plans to go to court for what they call the president's excessive use of executive orders. Obama said during a Tuesday speech on infrastructure policy, "Middle class families can't wait for Republicans in Congress to do stuff." Obama and the Democrats have long criticized congressional Republicans for what they call inaction.
Julianne Moore has founded an Everytown for Gun Safety committee of Hollywood figures that will push for measures to prevent gun violence, calling the project the Everytown Creative Council. “As American citizens, we are shocked and saddened by the loss of life, and the daily increase of gun violence in our beautiful country,” Moore said in a statement. “We do not believe that the Second Amendment and gun safety are mutually exclusive ideas, and as a creative community, we will do everything we can to support the safety of our fellow Americans, and galvanize more to join us in this movement.”
The Dutch Safety Board has released it's long-awaited report on the crash of MH17. The Malaysian airliner was shot down over eastern Ukraine in July 2014. The flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was flying over Russian separatist territory when a surface-to-air-missile intercept the passenger jet. The safety board's report stated the impact would have been entirely unexpected, adding that the people on board would not likely comprehend their situation. The reported concluded that most of the 298 on board survived the initial explosion. Investigators determined the missile only killed three crew members immediately, including the first officer and head steward.
Quentin Tarantino is courting controversy once again, with his less-than-favorable views on “Selma” and comments saying he was persecuted for his skin color in “Django Unchained” criticisms. In an interview with Bret Easton Ellis for T Magazine, Tarantino revealed his opinion of Ava DuVernay’s “Selma,” which was largely left out of last year’s Oscar race, leading many criticize the Academy for its exclusion. If people don’t like my movies, they don’t like my movies, and if they don’t get it, it doesn’t matter,” Tarantino said. “She did a really good job on ‘Selma’ but ‘Selma’ deserved an Emmy,” he said to “American Psycho” author.
For a nervous moment actor Paul Dano stood quietly onstage Monday night at a Los Angeles jazz club gripping a microphone with both hands to sing a 1966 Beach Boys classic, "You Still Believe in Me." At the keyboard beside him was the man who co-authored it, Brian Wilson. On his other side stood Al Jardine, another original Beach Boy, who assured the crowd: "He's got a really good voice." By the time Dano began the song's achingly vulnerable vocal melody, he was already being carried away by Wilson's rich layers of sound, both bright and melancholy.
T.I. has apologized for questioning whether Hillary Clinton or any other woman could handle being president, tweeting, "My comments about women running for president were unequivocally insensitive and wrong. "Not to be sexist, but I can't vote for the leader of the free world to be a woman," the rapper said. "Just because, every other position that exists, I think a woman could do well. It's kinda like, I just know that women make rash decisions emotionally – they make very permanent, cemented decisions — and then later, it's kind of like it didn't happen, or they didn't mean for it to happen."
