David Letterman, maybe your next career should be as an author. The CBS Late Show host, scheduled to step down in 2015, is a finalist for this year's Thurber Prize for American Humor. Letterman and illustrator Bruce McCall have been nominated for the satirical picture book This Land Was Made for You and Me (But Mostly Me). Letterman's fame sets him apart from the other nominees, and so does his employment. He is the only finalist not affiliated with The New Yorker.

The sight of a brave goat running after a tiger and becoming his best friend is such a miraculous sight that it has caught the attention of animal lovers around the world. In the past, the Amur tiger being raised in Russia’s Primorsky Safari Park had been fed live goats and rabbits twice a week. But when a feisty goat named Timur trotted into the tiger’s enclosure, the most unexpected thing happened – the two became best friends. The unusual pair can be seen marking trees along the way and checking the fence along their habitat.
Following shootings that targeted a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado on Friday, several GOP Presidential candidates finally broke their silence and addressed the subject today. An especially sensitive issue for the Republican party, the non-profit organization - which provides reproductive health services to women in the US and abroad - has been a hot button topic for Social Conservatives for several election cycles. Carly Fiorina on Sunday called the attack “a tragedy, especially on a holiday weekend,” and Mike Huckabee added that it was an act of “domestic terrorism.” Three people were killed in the attack, including a devout police officer who died defending the clinic.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part Two took the top spot at the U.S. box office for the second week in a row, but it was just below that where there was some interesting stuff going on. Mockingjay took in $51 million for the three-day weekend and $75 million for the five-day, according to box office estimates. The film, a product of a troubled production that saw it delayed when Pixar decided to change directors, has received solid reviews but of course, the expectations for Pixar are different -- and higher -- than for just about anybody else.
The grandmother lifted her face to heaven and let out a high wail. "I pray for this hell to end," the 64-year-old said before crumpling onto the floor of her hut. Kimy Hassan Sayfo's daughters and granddaughters have been held captive by ISIS. Two daughters recently escaped but extremist fighters have kept her young granddaughters "for themselves," she said. Her story echoes those of countless others across this vast tent city full of Yazidis, a tiny and ancient religious minority reviled and persecuted by ISIS.
