Jennifer Lopez celebrated her 45th birthday with an almost life-sized cake of her riding a lion ... and a bash that cost $100K! J.Lo threw the party for herself at Nammos restaurant in Southampton. A hundred guests sang happy birthday, including Khloe Kardashian, French Montana, Fat Joe, Kelly Ripa, Leah Remini, Andy Cohen and ... Maksim, who showed up at 1 AM. There was a fancy, sit down dinner followed by dancing. The party ended at around 4 AM.
If you're driving on the highway in Virginia, don't be surprised if you soon see a car in your rear-view mirror with no one behind the wheel. Virginia announced Monday that it's opening up 70 miles of highway for self-driving car testing according to a report in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Virginia is the latest U.S. state to allow testing of self-driving cars on public roads after California, Nevada, Florida and Michigan, as well as Washington, D.C. As of now, no self-driving car makers have publicly announced plans to start testing in Virginia, but Maya Blanco, director of Automated Vehicle Systems at VTTI, predicts autonomous cars will be on the state's highways in about a year, according to the Times-Dispatch.
It's been over a month since Sheryl Sandberg's husband Dave Goldberg passed away while on vacation in Mexico, and she's coming forward to thank everyone who has offered their support. The Facebook COO posted a lengthy message expressing her gratitude to those who've supported her in the recent weeks, and shared how she and her family are currently coping with the tragic loss. She wrote, "I think when tragedy occurs, it presents a choice. You can give in to the void, the emptiness that fills your heart, your lungs, constricts your ability to think or even breathe. Or you can try to find meaning. These past thirty days, I have spent many of my moments lost in that void." Sandberg explained that she was writing "to mark the end of sheloshim"—the Jewish tradition of a mourning for 30 days after a death—"to give back some of what others have given to me."
Alabama senators took a step toward renaming Selma’s Edmund Pettus bridge, a historic site in the voting rights movement that also bears the name of a Ku Klux Klan officer. Senators approved a resolution on Wednesday to rename it the Journey to Freedom Bridge. The bridge became a symbol of the fight for voting rights after marchers were beaten by state troopers there in 1965. The bridge is Selma’s most notable landmark, but its KKK association has drawn the ire of some in the majority black city. Pettus was a US senator, a Confederate general and a KKK grand dragon.
It was business as usual for Qatar’s prep work on the 2022 World Cup Wednesday, even as shockwaves of Sepp Blatter’s resignation led to more speculation that the Fifa chief’s sudden departure could see the emirate stripped of the coveted global sports event. But there was something in the air – and not just the hot Qatari heat, a reminder of long-standing controversy about the location and its drawbacks. In downtown Doha, in the steel and glass HQ of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, frantic officials were fielding calls on how the Gulf state might respond to a new threat to its moment of glory in seven years.
Jada Pinkett Smith married Will Smith when she was very young, but that doesn't mean she wants her children to follow in her footsteps. "Heck yeah, don't do it," she advised when she stopped by The Howard Stern Show. "Thank God I have a husband who is just a gangster partner because can you imagine taking that road together from 25 to 44?" The Gotham actress, who has been very honest in the past about her "open" marriage to Smith, also clarified what she meant by her famous comments that indicated she and Smith were free to date whomever. Host Howard Stern, however, noted that neither one seems to act on it. "You gotta trust who you're with, and at the end of the day, I'm not here to be anybody's watcher," Pinkett Smith explained. "I'm not his watcher. He's a grown man."
