A possible Ebola scare closed a Charlotte area emergency room briefly overnight in an incident that may play out many times over in the coming weeks with heightened fears about the virus. It turns out it wasn't Ebola, but a spike in media coverage about the outbreak, along with some reminders from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have put hospital staff on alert.
The EU has agreed a €1.8bn (£1.3bn; $2bn) loan to Ukraine - described as a landmark deal for a non-EU member. The agreement was signed at an EU summit in Riga, Latvia, with the leaders of six post-Soviet nations. The loan aims to help cash-strapped Ukraine implement economic reforms, as fighting with pro-Russian rebels in the east has taken a heavy toll. Ukraine is under pressure from the EU and other international lenders to curb corruption and liberalise the economy.
Film director Danny Boyle has expressed concern about the gathering of personal data by companies such as Facebook and Google. During an interview with Newsnight's Laura Kuenssberg, Boyle said, "They're not really interested in our money anymore. Initially, they're interested in everything about us that we will give them and they will take possession of." Boyle then added, "When people are reduced to data like that... I think culture has a wonderful part to play to stand up against that and actually say 'no'. Culture will tell you you're not just data, you're something else." The director, whose latest film is a biography of the late Apple founder Steve Jobs, was speaking following the opening of HOME, a new £25m art complex in Manchester, of which he is patron.

Myanmar has rescued two migrant boats holding more than 200 people in its waters near the border with Bangladesh. It was Myanmar's first such rescue. It has faced strong criticism for not doing enough to aid those stranded at sea and stem the migrant crisis. Most stranded migrants are Rohingya fleeing persecution in Myanmar; others are economic migrants from Bangladesh. More than 3,000 have landed in neighbouring Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, which have offered aid. Myanmar, also known as Burma, said these migrants were rescued on Friday morning.
The State Department released the first batch of Hillary Clinton’s emails on Friday from the private email address she used when she was Secretary of State. The 296 emails released all pertained to the 2012 terrorist attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The emails included some of Clinton’s correspondence with Sidney Blumenthal, a controversial former White House aide, which was first leaked on Thursday, as well as other documents from the 2016 Democratic presidential frontrunner’s tenure at the State Department. In a tweet, the State Department said, "The emails we release today do not change the essential facts or our understanding of the events before, during, or after the attacks."
