Monday’s highly anticipated soccer match between the U.S. and Ghana, will be played in a city reeling from unusually heavy rainfall and flooding. The city of Natal, on the northeastern coast of Brazil, received at least a month’s worth of rain in just a few days, according to news reports and weather observations, leading to landslides, sinkholes and other potentially deadly consequences. The rains forced the city of Natal, which has a population of about 1 million, to declare a state of emergency on Sunday, according to The Weather Channel. This helped mobilize emergency responders to deal with storm-related hazards.
