Israeli police clashed with hundreds of Palestinian protesters in Jerusalem on Friday as an Arab teenager, who Palestinians say was killed by Israeli extremists, was brought to rest in the neighborhood where he lived. Thousands of people chanting and waving Palestinian flags greeted the body partially wrapped in a traditional headscarf as it arrived by ambulance at a mosque before burial on Friday afternoon. Mourners carried the body aloft on a stretcher through the thick crowd. Police had earlier beefed up security in and around Jerusalem. Extra precautions were taken as the funeral coincides with the first Friday prayer services of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan. Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said police clashed with hundreds of Palestinians in Ras al-Amud and Wadi Joz in the eastern sector of the city. The day had been calm before Friday prayers, police said, following two days of protests since the boy's death.
A lawyer and spokesman for current Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump issued a series of vulgar threats to a reporter on Monday, while falsely claiming that it was legal for a husband to rape his wife in New York. Michael Cohen, special counsel for the Trump Organization, threatened Canadian-American reporter Tim Mak of the Daily Beast with untold legal consequences in response to an article that resurfaced allegations that Trump had raped his then-wife Ivana. The statements from the real-estate tycoon’s long-time attorney may, campaign watchers said, prove to undermine a campaign that officially began with Trump’s incendiary remarks about migrants from Mexico whom he called “rapists” and has survived a series of increasingly controversial remarks over the following six weeks.
After a turbulent season of The Bachelorette, Kaitlyn Bristowe has made it to her final rose ceremony. The episode began with Nick meeting Kaitlyn's family. Kaitlyn's mom said she was "totally shocked" to learn that Nick was one of Kaitlyn's final two guys, given that she didn't have a good impression of him from Andi Dorfman's season. Shawn also got to meet the family, with Kaitlyn's mom worried about how he handles jealousy and wanting to hear how he dealt with the news that Kaitlyn had slept with Nick.
The gunman responsible for last week's deadly attack in a Louisiana movie theater was delivered by deputies to hospital for a mental evaluation in 2008 after his family said he was a danger to himself and others. But the judge who ordered John Russell Houser detained said Monday that she did not have him involuntarily committed, which may explain why he was able to legally purchase the gun he used to kill two people and wound nine others before killing himself. Funerals were held Monday in Louisiana for Jillian Johnson and Mayci Marie Breaux, the two women killed when Houser opened fire in a theater in the city of Lafayette.
The Boy Scouts of America on Monday ended its blanket ban on gay adult leaders while allowing church-sponsored Scout units to maintain the exclusion for religious reasons. The new policy, aimed at easing a controversy that has embroiled the Boy Scouts for years, takes effect immediately. It was approved by the BSA's National Executive Board on a 45-12 vote during a closed-to-the-media teleconference.
The Arizona Cardinals have hired the first female coach in National Football League history, the team said Monday. Jen Welter is a former college rugby player, 14-season pro footballer and the first woman to play a non-kicking position in a men's pro league, according to a Cardinals release: in 2014, she was a running back and played special teams for the Texas Revolution in the Indoor Football League.
