Investor Carl Icahn said in the 13D filing that Gannett shares are undervalued. The filing says Icahn and his partners plan to "have discussions" with Gannett management and its board of directors "relating to the planned separation, corporate governance, capitalization and capital allocation." Gannett shares were up 4.4% to $35.55 in after-hours trading, when the filing was disclosed.
The A-10 and the F-35 will finally have a chance to face-off in an upcoming evaluation, the Air Force’s top general said Thursday, despite earlier in the week claiming a comparison was a “silly exercise.” Bloomberg reports that the evaluation, however, won’t take place until 2018, but it’s one that will keep many waiting with anticipation. According to J. Michael Gilmore, the director of the Pentagon’s Operational Test and Evaluation Office, the goal of the test is to see “how well the F-35 performs and whether there are gaps or improvements in capabilities compared to the A-10.”

The Los Angeles City council has placed a bid for the 2024 Olympic Games. The council voted unanimously on Tuesday, allowing Mayor Eric Garcetti to proceed in negotiating with the US Olympic Committee. Boston, the initial US candidate for the 2024 games, exited contention in July. Should Los Angeles be selected as the host in 2017 when the International Olympic Committee finalizes their decision; it will stand with London as the second city to host three Olympic games.
Actress Rachel Bilson reunited with her former “The O.C.” co-stars at the premiere of “The Unauthorized O.C. Musical” on Sunday night. Bilson became a breakout star thanks to the cult teen drama, and she returned to her roots at The Montalban Theatre in Hollywood to watch the one-night-only staging of “The O.C.” as a musical. Bilson, who marked her first red carpet appearance since giving birth to her first child last year at the event, was joined by Kelly Rowan, Melinda Clarke, show creator Josh Schwartz and executive producers Stephanie Savage and McG.
Idris Elba has all the necessary accoutrements to take over for Daniel Craig when that time comes. Why are we defending Elba and not someone else? Only because current 007 author, Anthony Horowitz, claimed that the Thor and Wire actor was "too street" to play Bond. Whatever that means. Naturally, people weren't too happy with his comments. To his credit, Horowitz did apologize for his remarks, insisting that he was "clumsily" trying to explain that he was used to Elba playing someone like his Luther character and that it definitely wasn't about race. The actor oozes charm, looks great in a suit, and even makes kicking butt look good!
