Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission on Sunday filed a case with local police, accusing 17 people of breaching regulations over the construction of a building that collapsed last year. The disaster caused the death of over 1,130 mostly garment workers. The April 2013 collapse of Rana Plaza, built on swampy ground outside Dhaka, ranks among the world's worst industrial accidents, and sparked a global outcry for improved safety standards in the world's second-largest exporter of ready-made garments. Critics say low labor costs and safety shortcuts make Bangladesh the cheapest place to make large quantities of clothing.
Silent no more. On Monday, July 6, Ben Affleck tweeted for the first time since announcing his split from his wife of 10 years, Jennifer Garner. “.@JohnKerry Thx for appointing Tom Perriello as Special Envoy, Africa Great Lakes & #DRC. @EasternCongo partners look fwd to working w/ him,” the humanitarian, 42, wrote. Affleck founded the Eastern Congo Initiative in 2010, and has spoken out numerous times about the importance of foreign aid in Africa. Prior to officially announcing their decision to divorce on June 30, the family of five flew to the Bahamas to avoid the aftermath of their statement. Us Weekly later confirmed that Affleck returned to Los Angeles solo on July 3, and Garner flew to Atlanta with their three children on July 5 to begin work on her upcoming film, Miracles From Heaven.
Caitlyn Jenner will be writing weekly online editorials about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and issues. Jenner's spokesman, Alan Nierob, said Monday that the editorials on the celebrity content website WhoSay are part of Jenner's effort to explore matters of concern to the LGBT community. This month, the former Bruce Jenner will be featured in an eight-episode series depicting her transition to a new life as a woman. The Olympic champion has been part of the E! reality series "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," about the extended family that includes Jenner's ex-wife, Kris Jenner, and stepdaughter Kim Kardashian.
Last month, Latino Review claimed that Chris Pine was actually up for the Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in the DC Cinematic Universe. There were also reports that had him up for Wonder Woman's love interest Steve Trevor. Now, a new report backs up LR's claims. The website birthmoviesdeath claims they spoke to a source close to Pine, who verified that the Star Trek actor has been offered Steve Trevor and Hal Jordan, but hasn't made a decision on either yet. The website added, "My source tells me that Pine is definitely leaning towards Green Lantern." Hopefully he makes a decision very soon as Warner Bros. is reportedly planning to unveil their full-Justice League lineup this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con. Green Lantern arrives in theaters June 19, 2020.
According to Dezeen Magazine, Australian architecture firm Elenberg Fraser just got the green light to build this massive, curving skyscraper inspired by Beyoncé. The wave-shaped building, dubbed Premiere Tower, is meant to imitate the flowing capes of fabric worn by Bey and her dancers in the video for "Ghost." The firm said in a statement, "For those more on the art than science side, we will reveal that the form does pay homage to something more aesthetic – we're going to trust you've seen the music video for Beyoncé's 'Ghost." In more boring news, the building's unique shape also improves the building's structural integrity.
Prepare for some disappointment Star Wars fans. According to EW, the Star Wars panel at this year’s Comic-Con International: San Diego will not feature any new footage from The Force Awakens. That means no new clips and new trailer. You’ll have to wait until the fall for a new trailer to hit. Instead, the panel will focus on bringing fans behind-the-scenes of the film for the first time. Director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy will be on hand for the event, which will be moderated by Chris Hardwick.
