US issues global travel alert for month amid perceived al-Qaeda threat

The US Department of State has issued a global travel alert, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa, amid a perceived al-Qaeda threat of conducting attacks in the period between now and end of August. The State Department travel alert was based on the same intelligence that prompted it to close 21 U.S. embassies and consulates this Sunday, chiefly those in the Muslim world. Americans traveling internationally at Dulles International Airport outside Washington, D.C. however didn't seem overly concerned about the warning. US security sources said the threat was related to AQAP, but there was not a specific target and it was not limited to US interests but applied more broadly to Western interests.
