The U.N. health agency is urging Ebola-affected countries to start screening all passengers leaving international airports, sea ports and major ground crossings. The World Health Organization says the risk of the Ebola virus being transmitted during air travel is low but anyone with an illness consistent with the virus should not be allowed to travel unless it is part of an appropriate medical evacuation.
Hello again, Rob Kardashian! The 28-year-old Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has been keeping a low-profile lately and on social media. So, when Rob returned to Instagram Thursday with a throwback shirtless pic, it was an unexpected but pleasant surprise! The #TBT was exactly a vanity selfie like sister Kim Kardashian might share—instead, it was a candid, mid-bite shot of Rob "just chill-zoning in Malibu and eating a pulled pork sandwich." In any case, Rob's latest throwback snap might not be up for long—he has a tendency to post and then delete pics.
Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o will star at Off Broadway’s Public Theater in “Eclipsed,” the 2009 play by writer-actor Danai Gurira. Nyong’o, who took home the Oscar for her performance in 2013 film “12 Years a Slave,” makes her New York stage debut in the fall production of “Eclipsed,” to be directed by Lisel Tommy, who also helmed the play’s world premiere, which bowed at D.C.’s Woolly Mammoth Theater and New Haven’s Yale Rep in 2009.
BAFTA winner Rhys Ifans (“The Amazing Spider-Man,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1″) will join Richard Jenkins in the cast of the Epix spy series “Berlin Station,” the network announced Thursday. Ifans joins the ensemble to play Officer Hector DeJean, a charming agent who works for Chief Steven Frost (Jenkins). The 10-part contemporary spy series will follow case officers at the CIA foreign station in Berlin trying to uncover the source of a leak who has supplied information to a whistleblower.
Last month Misty Copeland marked a milestone for American ballet. As the first African-American principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre, she has been cast into the public image as an agent of change; but her early passion for the art tells a different life's tale. While speaking to Rolling Stone, Copeland said, "ballet became this escape for me...ballet became a way for me to cope." At 32 years of age, she looks back on her early life with clarity knowing how those experiences shaped herself as a person and dancer. Living in and out of motels during a tumultuous childhood, Copeland used her imagination to draw her far away what was happening around her. Using a balcony railing as a practice barre, Copeland admitted, "I would pretend I was in the ballet studio and give myself a ballet class to get away from everything." Now sitting close to the top of her craft, Copeland is simply excited for the social implications of her recent accomplishment.
A federal judge has rejected a legal challenge from a Guantanamo Bay detainee. Muktar Yahya Najee al-Warafi has said his detention was illegal in light of President Barack Obama's statements that active hostilities in Afghanistan had ended. The Yemeni was captured in Afghanistan in 2001. Courts have upheld his detention on grounds that he likely aided Taliban forces. His lawyers argued that his detention was unlawful under the Authorization for the Use of Military Force, which provided the legal justification for the imprisonment of foreign fighters captured on overseas battlefields. The Supreme Court has said such detention is legal as long as "active hostilities" continue. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth said in a 14-page opinion issued Thursday that it was clear that hostilities still persist.
