Authorities in Tripura sent back 90 Bangladeshi tribals who entered India illegally, seeking refuge, after ethnic clashes with non-tribal Muslims in their homeland last week. The repatriation took place through Gandacherra in Dhalai district of Tripura in presence of Indian and Bangladeshi officials and border guards of both the nations. The tribal people mainly consisting of Buddhists and Hindus had fled their homeland and entered into Indian territory after some "miscreants" allegedly attacked their homes in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), a tribal- dominated area in southeast Bangladesh that borders India and Myanmar. Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gandacherra, Bhaskar Das Gupta, said that the Bangladeshi nationals came to Tripura after facing ethnic violence back home.
