Besieged for over two years with thousands of families trapped inside, the old city of Homs today lies in ruins. Once dubbed the capital of Syria’s revolution, the city has been reduced to rubble. In February 2014, vital aid was delivered to the city and nearly 1,400 women, children and elderly were evacuated following a UN-supervised agreement. In early May, a deal brokered between the Syrian government and the opposition allowed fighters and a number of civilians to leave the old city. In the wake of the agreement, former residents have returned to Homs to see what remains of their city, their homes and businesses.
