Obama Congratulates US Players on World Cup Performance

The US soccer team left the World Cup with heads held high on July 1, after a narrow defeat to Belgium in the second round of the competition. President Barack Obama put in a call to two of the squad’s heroes: striker Clint Dempsey, who scored the fastest goal of the competition; and goalkeeper Tim Howard, who put in a record-breaking display against Belgium. Obama told the players, “You guys did us proud.” Credit: YouTube/US Soccer
