Union Railways minister Pawan Kumar Bansal on Tuesday presented the much awaited rail budget for 2013-14 in the Lok Sabha, stressing on the need to make railways financially sustainable for the benefit of passengers. Bansal admitted that passenger services have deteriorated in trains, adding that there is a constant demand for more trains. The 12th Plan railway size is to be Rs 5.19 lakh crore, with gross budgetary support of Rs 1.94 lakh crore, said Bansal. Informing that the Government's target is zero accident, Bansal said that there has been a significant fall in number of train accidents. Also, recruitment of RPF is being conducted with 10percent reservation for women. Next generation of e-ticketing system will be introduced by end of the next year, and the provision for free Wi-Fi services in trains is being looked into, along with a string of other services.
