Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, whose term as Member of Parliament (MP) expires next month, arrived in Guwahati on Wednesday and filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections in Guwahati. Singh, who is a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, will also attend the Congress Legislative Party meeting at Dispur. In Assam, notification was issued today to hold elections to two Rajya Sabha seats. According to reports, May 20 is the last date to file nominations and the scrutiny of nominations will be held the next day. Polls, if necessary, will be held on May 30. The current term of Rajya Sabha members representing Assam, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Kumar Deepak Das will expire on June 16.
