Pacific Gas & Electric Co. pleaded not guilty Monday to a dozen felony charges stemming from alleged safety violations in a deadly 2010 natural gas pipeline explosion that leveled a suburban neighborhood in the San Francisco Bay Area. Federal Magistrate Judge Joseph Spero granted prosecutors' request to increase the maximum fine PG&E could face to more than $6 million, if the court decides the company somehow benefited financially or saved money as a result of criminal misconduct.
Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have welcomed their baby girl, Max, into the world. He posted on Facebook, Your mother and I don't yet have the words to describe the hope you give us for the future. Zuckerberg also took the opportunity to announce the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, a nonprofit that will look "to join people across the world to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation. He said that the couple would be donating 99% of their Facebook shares to the cause, currently worth around $45 billion.
Hillary Clinton just keeps getting into trouble with the release of her emails. The latest release of Clinton emails contained a message from to her friend Sidney Blumenthal that says, "If Mittens [Mitt Romney] can't beat Grinch [Gingrich] in Florida, there will be pressure on state Republican parties to reopen or liberalize ballot access especially in the caucuses, which as we know are creatures of the parties' extremes." It’s not too surprising to hear that, after all she lost caucuses contests - including Iowa's - to Barack Obama in 2008. But if Clinton's caucuses-tilt-to-the-extremes comment sounds familiar, it's pretty much what helped sink Howard Dean before the 2004 Iowa caucuses - exclusive video that NBC News unearthed during that election cycle. Dean said in on a 2000 Canadian TV program that NBC News uncovered, "If you look at the caucuses system, they are dominated by the special interests on both sides on both parties. They represent the extremists. Then you get a president beholden to either one extreme or the other." While Martin O'Malley's campaign has seized on Clinton's email about the caucuses, it's unlikely to have the same kind of impact because the 2016 Dem race isn't as close as the 2004 race.

Cate Blachett has already addressed the issue of inequalities among women and men in Hollywood in her Oscar acceptance speech for Blue Jasmine, but apparently she has more to say about that. In a GQ interview the Australian actress said, "It just feels like the industry has the same conversation every year and I think that's a fabulous conversation. We'll be back here like Groundhog Day next year having the same f--king symposium. It just has to shift." Blanchett is passionate about her work and career and even calls herself her "harshest critic," but when it comes to the politics of the business she's seemingly unfazed. When Sony was hacked and swarms of emails were released, Blanchett says she couldn't have cared less despite being named specifically in a few of them. An email from Aaron Sorkin to Maureen Dowd reportedly said, "Year in and year out, the guy who wins the Oscar for Best Actor has a much higher bar to clear than the woman who wins Best Actress. Cate gave a terrific performance in Blue Jasmine but nothing close to the degree of difficulty for any of the five Best Actor nominees." Her interview with GQ was the first time she heard those words, and upon hearing them she tells the publication, "He's not the first." She added, “I'm not in this business expecting or wanting everyone to like what I do. Believe me, I'm the harshest critic of what I do myself, so no one can say anything worse out there than I say to myself.”
The Saturday Night Live alumni have been BFFs for about 20 years, and their relationship continues to flourish both in and out of the spotlight. The older you get, the more you treasure that idea of someone knowing your family and where you came from, and being around during these times. The two also revealed the best part about hosting the Emmy's was just getting the chance to hangout. "Of course women in their 40s can dress sexy," Poehler explains of their characters' risqué outfits. "And, you know, the term sexy is very subjective." "Yeah, I do also think that by the time you are in your forties, what you want to wear and what you think is sexy is not always, like, for another person. It's what makes you feel good," Fey adds.
