New Yorkers Stage Protest Over Ferguson Policing

Thousands of people joined demonstrations in New York, Chicago, and St Louis calling for justice for Michael Brown, a 18-year-old man shot dead in a confrontation with police in Ferguson, Missouri. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon transferred responsibility for policing Ferguson to the Missouri State Highway Patrol from St Louis County Police following the use of tear gas and rubber bullets against protesters in the Missouri town.

President Obama called for a “peace and calm” in Ferguson on August 14, following several nights of protests, isolated clashes with police and looting late on Sunday, August 10.
