US Fighter Jets, Drones Strike Iraqi Militants

US military jets bombed Islamic State (formerly known as ISIS) targets in Iraq on August 8, in an effort to repel militants that have seized swathes of territory in northern Iraq. The air strikes included the dropping of two 500-pound bombs on Islamic State positions, a drone strike on a mortar position and an attack by four F/A-18 jets on an Islamic State convoy and mortar position, the Pentagon said in a statement.

These videos – 1 and 2 in ascending order – are described as showing the air strikes on Islamic State positions, which is the first aggressive US military action in Iraq in over two years.

The US has also begun dropping relief supplies to Iraqis displaced by the escalating conflict. Other videos below, uploaded on August 8 but recorded on August 7, show the humanitarian effort. All videos were uploaded by the same source. Credit: YouTube/centcom
