UNHCR Steps Up Aid as Yazidis Flee Mount Sinjar

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reports that tens of thousands of members of Iraq’s Yazidi community have fled into the Sinjar mountains. In this video one family tell of their flight into the mountains, including the death of their elderly mother.

In Syria, and as part of its response to the Yazidi situation in neighbouring Iraq, UNHCR has begun transporting newly arriving refugees from the border area to the Newroz camp near Al Qamishli, some 60 kilometres to the west.
