UK Foreign Secretary on Need for 'Concerted Approach' to Ebola

The UK’s foreign secretary Philip Hammond was in Brussels on October 20 to attend the European Union (EU) Foreign Affairs Council, where the ongoing Ebola crisis and fight against the Islamic State were set to top the agenda. Ahead of the council, Hammond spoke of the need for a “concerted effort” to tackle the spread of Ebola.

Hammond supported the EU’s decision to provide €1 billion to combat Ebola, describing it as a “worthwhile investment”. Hammond also said that the “only way we’re going to stop the spread of this disease is to make sure people are isolated and treated early”.

Hammond also spoke about the ongoing fight against the Islamic State and the need to assist Ukraine in dealing with the “crisis they are facing in energy supply”. Credit: © European Union
