Swarm of Locusts Hits Madagascar's Capital

The Madagascan capital, Antananarivo, was invaded by billions of locusts on Thursday, August 28. The clouds of flying insects darkened the skies of Antananarivo creating dramatic scenes. Madagascar has been plagued with three successive years of locusts, which can devastate the island nation’s farms, despite the efforts of the government and the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation.
