Russian Cargo Ship Towed to Safety in British Columbia

A Russian cargo ship that was drifting without power off the coast of British Columbia is now being towed back to port by an American tugboat. The Simushir and tugboat Barbara Foss were expected to arrive in Prince Rupert early on Sunday, October 19.

The 135-metre freighter, which was carrying a cargo of diesel, crude oil and mining equipment, lost power late on October 16 in stormy conditions prompting concerns that it would drift ashore in the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve. Credit: YouTube/Council of the Haida Nation
