Protests Follow Shooting Dead of Teenager in Missouri

Members of a Missouri community took to the streets of Ferguson on August 9 to demand answers following the shooting dead of an 18-year-old male by police. Witnesses told local television station KMOV that the youth, Michael Brown, was unarmed and had his hands in the air when he was shot multiple times. This video shows a garbage bin that was set alight during protests close to where the teenager was shot.

In a press conference on August 10, St Louis Country Police Chief Jon Belmar said a police officer had attempted to exit his vehicle when Brown pushed the officer back into the car. An altercation ensued and several shots were fired, he said. Credit: Instagram/Brttany Noble/KMOV
