Obama Speaks of Need for Affordable High-Speed Internet Across US

Ahead of his State of the Union address on January 20, US President Barack Obama spoke of the need for the availability of affordable, high-speed broadband across the country, saying it was necessary to attract business, increase economic competitiveness, and ease other “real world problems.”

Obama compared the high-speed connections available in cities such as Seoul, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Paris with the much slower speeds found in major US cities, such as New York and Los Angeles. He did, however, highlight a few exceptions in the US, making special mention of Cedar Falls, Iowa, where, he said, citizens took the initiative to introduce high-speed broadband to their town, allowing them to “compete with these other world cities.” Credit: YouTube/The White House
