NASA SMAP Satellite Deployed Into Orbit

A NASA satellite lifted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base on Saturday, January 31, on a three-year mission to measure and map the Earth’s soil moisture distribution. The Delta II rocket launched from Space Launch Complex 2 carrying a Soil Moisture Active Passive, or SMAP, satellite shortly after 6.20am local time.
