Explosions Leave Multiple Fatalities and Hundreds Wounded in Kaohsiung

Multiple gas explosions in Taiwan’s Kaohsiung city resulted in at least five deaths and left over 180 injured, according to local reports.
The southern municipality’s fire department said many residents were evacuated to emergency shelters after the explosions which occurred just around midnight local time on August 1.

The explosions on Kaisuan Road and Ersheng Road were reportedly triggered by gas leaks in the district’s sewage system.

Eyewitnesses said a white fog began rising in the streets around 9 pm, followed by blasts that rocked Cianjhen, Lingya, Siaogang and Cianjin districts.
