Military Air Strikes Destroy Homes in Anbar Province

Military air strikes destroyed homes in Iraq’s restive western province of Anbar on June 5. Hospital sources reported at least five people were killed and 25 wounded during the strikes, according to Radio Free Europe. Iraqi security forces have been battling militants in the region since the beginning of the year, when the al-Qaeda-linked group ISIS seized control of the province’s two main cities, Fallujah and Ramadi.

On May 28, Iraq’s prime minister, Nuri Al-Maliki, called for the removal of Islamist militants from Anbar before the start of the holy month of Ramadan. He reportedly called for a “national dialogue” and also urged the residents of Anbar to stand with the local tribes and government to defeat the al-Qaeda-linked ISIS.
