Melbourne Recycling Plant Fire Creates Huge Plume of Black Smoke

A fire at a recycling plant in the Melbourne suburb of Thomastown sent plumes of foul-smelling black smoke into the sky over the city on Friday, December 19.
A pile of tyres, cardboard and plastic caught fire just before 11am. Eight fire crews managed to bring the blaze under control, although it continued to billow smoke. People were advised to avoid the area. Credit: Facebook/Thomastown 3074
