Mayor Klitschko Slams 'Unacceptable' Behaviour on Kiev's Independence Square

Kiev’s Mayor Vitali Klitschko expressed shame over the violent demonstrations in Independence Square, calling it “unacceptable” during an August 7 press conference. The statement came after protesters attacked city workers who were trying to remove the final Maidan barricades on Kiev’s Independence Square. They also set a of tires alight, sending black plume of smoke into the sky.

The barricades stood as part of the revolution that overthrew president Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014. He confirmed that several firearms including machine guns, a grenade launcher and ammunition had been discovered during an audit on the people living on Independence Square. Klitschko stressed that this behavior was a “complete discredit” of Maidan ideals. Credit: YouTube/Партія УДАР Віталія Кличка
