Greenpeace Exposes Illegal Coal Mining in China

A new Greenpeace investigation has uncovered illegal opencast mining at the source of China’s Yellow River in the far-western Qinghai-Tibet plateau. In a report released on August 14, the NGO said that four opencast mines on the Muli coalfield, operated by five private firms, are in violation of Chinese conservation laws and threaten water levels in three of the country’s major rivers.
