Flood-Displaced Families in Malawi Survive on One Meal a Day

Recent floods in Malawi have left hundreds dead and many more homeless. A wave of storms brought devastating flooding to the south of the country, leaving over 170 dead and roughly 200,000 displaced, according to reports.

This video was produced by UNICEF in the Tizola flood displacement camp in southern Malawi and tells the story of Mercy. The UN reports that Mercy and her three children now live in a temporary camp, surviving on one meal a day, after heavy flooding damaged their home. “This year the floods have been so heavy,” says Mercy. “We have never seen anything like this.” Credit: UNICEF UK
