David Cameron Hosts Downing Street Reception Celebrating Diwali

UK Prime Minister David Cameron welcomed members of the Hindu and Jain community in the UK to 10 Downing Street on October 22 to celebrate the Diwali, often known as the festival of lights. Cameron spoke of the significance of the festival, mentioning the “triumph of good over evil and light over dark.” Speaking before a crowded room, Cameron praised the contribution of British-Hindus and British-Jains to society.

He said “the importance of family and the importance of community. Those are values that you bring to Britain, values we need more of in our country.” Cameron took time too to speak about Mahatma Ghandi, adding “it’s very fitting that in the next few months we will be unveiling in Parliament Square a statue to a great Indian.” Credit: YouTube/Nuber10gov
