'Close, but No Cigar' for SpaceX Rocket Landing

SpaceX successfully launched its Falcon 9 rocket with a Dragon cargo capsule on January 10. The Dragon carried over 5,000 pounds (2,260 kg) of supplies for the International Space Station. After the Falcon released its cargo capsule, the rocket itself headed back to Earth, where it was meant to land on a barge in the Atlantic ocean.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the rocket had made it to the “spaceport ship”, but that it “landed hard.” He wrote, “Close, but no cigar this time. Bodes well for the future tho.” Credit: YouTube/NASA Kennedy
