Christie Declares State of Emergency in New Jersey

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie declared a state of emergency on January 26, ahead of a predicted blizzard that could bring more than two feet of snow to some areas of the northeast. The worst conditions will be overnight from 9 p.m. local time until noon on Tuesday, the governor said.

He advised people to get off the roads as quickly and safely as possible. “If you don’t have to drive, remain off the roads,” he said. “You should only go out in an absolute emergency.”

The high winds could lead to power outages, Christie said. The utility companies have started to assemble crews to respond for possible outages. Credit: YouTube/Governor Christie
