Alan Gross Arrives Back in US After Release From Cuban Prison

American contractor Alan Gross returned to the US on December 17 after five years’ imprisonment in Cuba. Gross had been sentenced to 15 years in prison, but was released on humanitarian grounds. He was convicted on charges relating to work he did for USAid on providing internet access to Cuban Jews. His release, part of a prisoner swap, came after a year of negotiations. It was seen as marking a thawing of relations between the US and Cuba.
