Atlanta cops shoot one of their own after 9-1-1 mix up

RESTRICTIONS: NONE For story suggestions please contact tips@nma.com.twThe Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said Tuesday that a DeKalb County police officer that was injured while responding to a burglary call was accidentally shot by another officer, and not by the homeowner.The officer and homeowner Chris McKinley were injured during the shooting at the address on Boulderwoods Drive on Monday night when three officers went to the wrong home after receiving a call about a suspicious person.The officers, named as Travis Jones, Timothy Harden and Quhanna Lloyd, were only given a description of the house.The officers found a home that they thought matched the description and went inside. At least one officer opened fire inside the residence, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.Officer Travis Jones was shot in the hip. The homeowner was also injured, and his pet dog was shot and killed.Jones was taken to hospital for surgery where he is in a serious, but stable condition. McKinley was treated and released.All three officers have been placed on administrative leave while the bureau completes and investigation.
