University of Texas Removes Confederate President Statue From Campus

A statue of former President of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis was removed from a central location in the University of Texas at Austin on August 30, to be placed in the college’s Dolph Briscoe Center for American History. The move was approved by a campus panel following criticism that Davis was a symbol of racism. The decision to move the statue was announced by university president Gregory L. Fenves on August 13.
