United Airlines Passengers Stranded for Hours in Canberra

Passengers on a United Airlines flight from San Francisco bound for Sydney were stranded at Canberra Airport after the plane was forced to divert due to debris on the runway. UA863 landed in Canberra at 9 am local time, but passengers were not allowed to leave the tarmac because no customs and immigration facilities were available at the airport. Passengers on board said they were not let off the plane onto the tarmac for more than three hours.

A spokeswoman from United Airlines said the passengers would be flown back to Sydney at 4:20pm, according to a local report. Credit: Instragram/Roy Kim
