Raqqa Activist Group Win International Press Freedom Award

Syrian local activist group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently won the International Press Freedom Award on November 24. The “Committee to Protect Journalists” announced the prize in an event held in New York. Abdalaziz Alhamza, the co-founder of the group, made a moving acceptance speech wearing the flag of Syrian revolution. He said that he spoke on behalf of millions of Syrians who were looking for a free, democratic and united country.

Raqqa is being Slaughtered Silently is a Syrian campaign “against the Islamic State and Assad regime in Raqqa”, the de facto capital of Islamic State. Two Syrian journalists from the campaign against the Islamic State were shot and beheaded in their apartment in Sanliurfa, Turkey, on October 30, according to the campaign’s Facebook page.
