National Zoo’s Panda Cub ‘Active and Nursing Appropriately’

The surviving giant panda cub of twins born on August 22 was “active and nursing appropriately throughout the night,” according to the Smithsonian National Zoo panda keepers and veterinarians on August 27. The other, a smaller cub, died on August 26. The zoo reported the surviving panda was doing well, and said the cubs’ mother, Mei Xiang, was showing proper maternal care.
