Hundreds Reach Out Hands Toward City Hall to Pray for Baltimore

Demonstrators gathered in front of the Baltimore City Hall on Sunday, May 3, for a day of prayers, the same day as a citywide curfew was lifted. City hall has become a focal point for protests following the death of Freddie Gray, a local man who suffered a fatal spinal cord injury while in police custody. Six officers were charged on May 1 in connection with Gray’s death.

Governor Larry Hogan said the Maryland National Guard would draw down its presence in Baltimore on Sunday, almost one week after peaceful protests turned to riots in the city and the guard was activated.

Demonstrators clashed with police near Mondawmin Mall on April 27, with violence spilling into the North-Penn neighborhood where vehicles and buildings, including a CVS, were set on fire and businesses were looted.
