George Pataki Says Big Government, Radical Islam Pose Greatest Risks to Freedom

Former New York Gov. George Pataki, who formally announced his bid for the presidency on May 28, spoke about an urgent need to reduce the size of the federal government, repeal Obamacare, and neutralize the EPA, at the South Carolina Freedom Summit in Greenville on May 9. The summit was sponsored by Citizens United, a conservative non-profit, which has held similar talks in the early primary states of New Hampshire and Iowa.

If elected, Pataki said he would reduce the size of the federal workforce by at least 15 percent.

“We have too many bureaucrats…When we repeal Obamacare we won’t need as many bureaucrats in the health department,” Pataki said. “When we get rid of Common Core, we won’t need as many bureaucrats. When we stop the EPA trying to shut down American energy, we won’t need as many bureaucrats.”

Pataki stopped short of saying he would shut down the IRS in its entirety, in contrast to GOP candidates Ted Cruz and Rick Santorum. Credit: YouTube/Citizens United
