Defying Supreme Court, Kentucky Clerk Denies Same-Sex Marriage Licenses

A county clerk in Kentucky denied marriage licenses to same-sex couples on Tuesday, September 1, in defiance of the US Supreme Court. Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis said that she opposed the court’s landmark Obergefell v. Hodges ruling, that gave a constitutional right to gay marriage, on religious grounds. On Monday, the Supreme Court refused to support her decision.
