Cameron Applauds Sikh Culture Following Harvest Holiday Parade

UK Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife joined in a celebration and parade in Gravesend, northern Kent, on Saturday, April 18, marking Vaisakhi, one of the most important national holidays for Sikhs. The festival celebrates harvest time in the Sikh homeland of Punjab, often referred to as the breadbasket of India due to its dairy and agricultural production. The parade ended at the town’s Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara.

Immigration is a perennial issue in the UK. This footage, posted to the Conservative Party’s official YouTube channel, shows the prime minister wearing a traditional Sikh patka, praising the hard-work ethic the religion is known for, as well as acknowledging Sikhs’ participation in World War I fighting on the side of the allies.
