Merger news ranging from Merck's bid for Idenix Pharmaceuticals to Hillshire Farm's acceptance of a Tyson Foods takeover has prompted some traders to take positions. Ben Willis of Princeton Securities said the market got off to a good start with positive news out of Asia and managed to stay in the green off continued acquisition news. Traders are looking at those groups where there is takeover activity for stocks to move higher. Carl Icahn's move on Family Dollar Store lifted the price of Dollar General as an example. Overall, volume remains light on a quiet day of trading.
