The Mandate Debate 2013 - 5

by TIMES NOW 13:00 mins

The 2013 5-state Assembly election results are being seen as an indicator of the mood of the electorate ahead of the general elections 2014. The counting of the ballots cast in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will take place on December 8. The vote count in Mizoram is on December 9. Various exit polls have predicted that BJP is all set to win in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh while it appeared to have an edge in a hung assembly in Delhi. In Delhi, the entry of Arvind Kejriwal's AAP has changed the dimension of the election and made it a 3-way fight. AAP rides high on its anti-corruption plank. The electoral fate of three-time CM Sheila Dikshit and her challengers - BJP's Harsh Vardhan and AAP's Arvind Kejriwal - will be known tomorrow. In Rajasthan, the fate of CM Ashok Gehlot and Opposition BJP's state president Vasundhara Raje will be known. Is Raje in for a big win or can Gehlot spring a surprise in Rajasthan? BJP in Madhya Pradesh hopes it will script a hat-trick in the polls amid a "pro-incumbency" wave across the state. Can Shivraj Singh Chouhan stall Jyotiraditya Scindia's last minute charge to notch a hat-trick in MP? And, in the battle for Chhattisgarh, will BJP's Raman Singh score a hat-trick?Are whether these state elections are a referendum on Rahul Gandhi vs Narendra Modi contest in runup to 2014. Will the Assembly election results give a hint of what is in store for 2014? Will a 4-0 rout for Congress arm Narendra Modi? TIMES NOW's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami discusses with a host of politicians, political analysts and psephologists a number of issues confronting the respective states, and also a big national picture, and who would hold an edge -- Congress or BJP -- after the results are declared tomorrow.
