Israel has issued a tough condemnation of the new Palestinian unity government, ruling out negotiations and authorizing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to impose new sanctions on the Palestinians. Israel announced its decision Monday after Netanyahu gathered his Security Cabinet to discuss a response. Israel is furious that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, formed a joint government backed by the Islamic militant group Hamas. The government is meant to end a seven-year rift between the Palestinian rivals. Israel considers Hamas a terrorist group. Netanyahu said: "Abu Mazen said today yes to terror, and no to peace."

Suspected members of an outlawed marxist organization in Turkey have stormed an Istanbul courthouse on Tuesday and taken hostage a prosecutor who was working on the case of Berkin Elvan - a teenager who was killed during an anti-government demonstration in 2013. The kidnappers, who claim to belong to the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front, have published photos of themselves pointing a gun at the head of Mehmet Selim Kiraz, against the backdrop the organization's flag.
How did video footage of a shirtless, 18-year-old Rahm Emanuel demonstrating in the summer of 1978 in a Chicago city park during a neo-Nazi rally manage to stay buried for 36 years? No, this is not an outtake cut from the classic comedy "Blues Brothers." Thanks to the Chicago Reader, America can catch a glimpse of a bronzed, bushy-haired, generally angry-looking Emanuel as he appeared when he was taking on literal jackbooted thugs wearing swastika armbands. The scene was Marquette Park on Chicago’s southwest side on July 9, 1978 — a balmy Sunday. Dressed in real, actual brown shirts, members of the National Socialist Party of America led by founder Frank Collin had scheduled a city-approved rally at the park. A number of white supremacists gathered to hear Collin’s standard neo-Nazi racist message. But most people don't like Nazis---neo nor original. So responding with their duty to humanity a crowd of protestors showed up to bring shame to those shiny black boots. Prolific Chicago filmmaker Tom Palazzolo was on hand to document the events. He made a short film called Marquette Park II about the rally and the corresponding counter-rally. The whole film is a stunning slice of late 1970s Americana that feels relaxed and largely unedited — as if you, the viewer, are some time-traveling anthropologist.
Hillary Clinton used an iPad to send some emails from the private email account she exclusively used as secretary of state despite her recent claims that she used only one device — a Blackberry — out of convenience. The Associated Press received emails from the State Department in response to a Freedom of Information Act request it filed in 2013. Only four emails were turned over, but one of them contains a clue which undermines Clinton’s claim that she used only one device to communicate. In Sept. 2011, Clinton’s adviser, Huma Abedin, sent her boss a message containing an AP article about a drone strike in Pakistan. Clinton accidentally replied with a personal message about decorations. “ She also message, "Please let me know if you got a reply from my ipad. I’m not sure replies go thru.”
