The Black Keys recently embarked on their European tour, and upon arriving in London for the first of three nights at the O2 Academy Brixton, the duo were joined onstage by Noel Gallagher, one of the collaborators on their new album Ohio Players.

The former Oasis guitarist appears on three tracks on the Black Keys’ guest-heavy LP, and during the encore at Tuesday’s show, came out to perform two of those tracks with the band live for the first time: “Only Love Matters” and “On the Game.”

Speaking to NME before the release of Ohio Players, Patrick Carney said of Gallagher, “He’s hilarious and super talented. We were referring to him as ‘The Chord Lord’ because he’s just a perfectionist with it.”

Other contributors to Ohio Players include Beck, Dan the Automator, Leon Michels, Durand Jones and the Indications’ Aaron Frazer, and producer Greg Kurstin.

“We had this epiphany: ‘We can call our friends to help us make music.’ It’s funny because we both write songs with other people – Dan [Carney] all the time [as a solo artist and producer], me when I’m producing a record. That’s what we do,” Carney previously said in a statement.

“What we wanted to accomplish with this record was make something that was fun. And something that most bands 20 years into their career don’t make, which is an approachable, fun record that is also cool.”

The Black Keys will next perform on Wednesday and Thursday at the O2 Academy Brixton. Following the European run, the duo will bring their International Players Tour to North America this fall; that arena trek kicks off September 17 in Tulsa and runs through November 12 in Detroit.
