There were always three possible scenarios for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Bridgegate: One, that he was explicitly involved in the shutting down of three lanes feeding the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, New Jersey, as political retribution against a no-name mayor who didn't endorse him in an election Christie ran away with. Two, that he was marginally involved, in that he told staffers to "take care of" the problem mayor but wasn't specific about the actions to take. And three, that he wasn't involved at all; that an appointee at the Port Authority and staffers in his office cooked this up unbeknownst to him, didn't tell him and repeatedly lied to him about their involvement until e-mails proved otherwise.
Like a tech startup saved by an angel investor, “Halt and Catch Fire” has squeaked out a third season renewal from AMC.The decision to continue with the show, an ensembler set in the tech boom of the 1980s in Texas, required considerable deliberation and analysis by AMC execs, as “Halt’s” already small audience dropped from its first season in 2014. The renewal stands as evidence that even ad-supported networks are looking well beyond Nielsen numbers in evaluating the potential of original series. “Halt” was saved by the fact that it had a steady core viewership that was largely upscale, and it enjoyed strong momentum with critics in season two after making shifts in its storytelling focus.
In case you didn’t know, now you know: in the way that a nice cup of tea is soothing for some people, slasher films are like a lullaby for Lady Gaga. From HBO’s incredible documentary miniseries The Jinx, to Dateline and Snapped, which is about women who murder their husbands but make “ridiculous mistakes,” Gaga loves “the dichotomy of sex and horror at the same time” and finds “the art of darkness” fascinating, adding that she imagines she “would have been one of Hitchcock’s groupies.”
U.S. officials at the Pentagon reported on Thursday, Cruise missiles fired by Russian warships in the Caspian Sea intended for targets in Syria instead struck areas in Iran. And in a post on Facebook, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation disputed CNN's claim and said that the missiles all hit their intended targets.
F. Gary Gray, who made waves this summer with his profitable and critically acclaimed N.W.A biopic "Straight Outta Compton," has been set to direct the eighth film in the "Fast & Furious" franchise. Gray announced the news on his Facebook page on Thursday and Universal Pictures confirmed.
Oklahoma corrections officials used the wrong drug to execute Charles Warner in January, according to an autopsy report by the state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The report revealed that officials injected Warner with potassium acetate, when state protocol calls for an injection of potassium chloride, which stops the heart. It is the third and final drug used for executions, following a sedative and paralytic. The execution lasted 18 minutes and Warner said he had been “poked” with a needle five times. When the drugs began flowing, Warner said: “My body is on fire.”
